The first thing I noticed about Nagoya was how clean and efficient everything is—trains run like clockwork, and even during rush hour, it never feels chaotic. The city has this cool mix of modern skyscrapers and historic temples, like the stunning Atsuta Shrine tucked between office buildings. And the food? Unreal. You haven't lived until you've tried Nagoya-style miso katsu—thick, rich, and totally addictive. The locals were surprisingly warm too, always happy to help when I got lost staring at my phone. Even though it's Japan's fourth-largest city, it doesn't feel overwhelming like Tokyo sometimes does—just a really livable, underrated gem.

1Nagoya’s mix of modern buzz and quiet tradition surprised me—I didn’t expect to love the contrast this much. Spent an afternoon at Osu Kannon browsing vintage shops crammed between temples, then grabbed miso katsu at a tiny counter joint where the broth was richer than anything I’ve had back home. The subway’s spotless and efficient, but walking lets you stumble on those random pockets of old-school Japan, like a 100-year-old mochi shop tucked between office towers.
