Kawasaki’s mix of urban buzz and local charm surprised me—it’s not just Tokyo’s quieter neighbor. The Nihon Minka-en open-air museum was a great escape, with its preserved Edo-era houses tucked between modern buildings. Down by Kawasaki Daishi, the street food stalls serve these incredible mitarashi dango that I still crave. The train connections make it easy to explore, but the city has its own low-key energy, especially around the shopping arcades where you can find everything from vintage shops to tiny izakayas.
