Walking through Kyoto feels like stepping into a living postcard—the way ancient wooden teahouses sit beside sleek modern boutiques, the scent of matcha and incense in the air. I lost count of how many temples I visited, but the golden glow of Kinkaku-ji at sunset is burned into my memory. Even the bus system was surprisingly efficient for getting between districts, though I ended up walking half the time just to peek into hidden alleyways. The ryokan I stayed in had paper-thin walls but waking up to a garden view made up for it.

1Wandering Kyoto’s backstreets feels like stepping into a woodblock print—narrow lanes lined with old wooden machiya houses, the smell of roasting matcha in the air. The temples are stunning, but what stuck with me was the quiet dignity of the place, even in tourist-heavy spots like Fushimi Inari. The buses are packed but run like clockwork, and slipping into a tiny izakaya for yakitori after dark is pure magic.
