1. Acceptance
By using Rate My City, operated by Red Cookie OÜ, Kaupmehe 8, Tallinn, Estonia, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the service. Nothing here limits any statutory right you have as a consumer under EU or your local law that can't lawfully be waived by contract.
2. The service
Rate My City lets you react (like / dislike / neutral) to cities around the world, write short reviews about cities you've visited, and post a fuller description — with photos — of your own home city, including a short survey about it. The service is provided free of charge, and its features may change over time.
3. Your account
You sign in with Google. One account per person; keep your account information accurate. You're responsible for activity under your account, and for keeping your Google account secure — we don't have or store a separate password for you.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of what you post — reviews, survey answers, photos. By posting, you grant Rate My City a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, and publicly display that content for the purpose of operating and promoting the service (for example, showing your review to other users, or featuring a post on the homepage). That license ends when you delete the content or your account, except where a copy needs to persist briefly for backups or legal compliance. Don't post content that's illegal, harassing, infringes someone else's rights, or identifies private individuals without their consent. Photos and text are queued for moderation before appearing publicly, and we may remove content that violates these terms without prior notice.
5. Acceptable use
No coordinated or automated manipulation of reactions (vote brigading), no scraping the platform at scale, no impersonating another person or city, no attempts to circumvent the one-reaction-per-city-per-account rule, no uploading content you don't have the rights to, and no using the service to harass, threaten, or publish someone else's private information without consent.
6. Suspension & termination
We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these terms, at our reasonable discretion and proportionate to the violation. Activity consistent with coordinated vote manipulation or other automated abuse (§5) may be flagged automatically as described in our Privacy Policy's "Abuse & attack detection" section, but that flag on its own doesn't suspend anything — any suspension or content removal is confirmed by a person, not decided solely by an automated system. You can delete your account at any time; doing so removes your reactions, posts, and survey answers, subject to the retention notes in our Privacy Policy.
7. Disclaimer & liability
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including — to the extent permitted by law — warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any content (including other users' reviews and ratings) is accurate.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Rate My City's total liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (currently zero, as the service is free), or (b) €50. We're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Nothing in this section excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law (for example, liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud, and mandatory consumer-protection rights in your jurisdiction).
8. Governing law & disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Estonia and, where applicable, the European Union, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you're a consumer resident in the EU, you may also be entitled to bring proceedings in the courts of your own country of residence, and you can use the EU's Online Dispute Resolution platform (ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr) for out-of-court resolution of a dispute with us.
9. Changes
If these terms change materially, we'll update the date above and, where required, let signed-in users know before the change takes effect.
