Bandung's cool mountain air was a welcome break from Jakarta's humidity. Wandering through the art deco buildings in the city center, I stumbled on tiny warungs serving the best soto Bandung I've ever had—that clear broth with crunchy fried shallots is addictive. The angkot minibuses are chaotic but cheap, and locals happily helped me figure out routes when I got lost. The creative energy here is infectious—Dago's street art and indie boutiques mixed with old Dutch colonial villas make every walk interesting. At night, the Braga area turns into this perfect mix of live jazz cafes and students hanging out on sidewalks with cheap bakso. Even the traffic jams have character—stuck between flower vendors weaving through cars and sudden views of those green volcanic hills. It's messy in the best way.

1Bandung’s cool mountain air is such a relief after Jakarta’s heat. I loved how every street seems to have a cozy little warung or café serving up the best soto and baso tahu. The Art Deco buildings in the city center give it this laid-back retro charm, like stepping back in time but with way better coffee. The pasar malam near my hotel was buzzing every night—so much cheaper than the mall food courts and way more fun. I ended up eating martabak manis three nights in a row because the vendors kept tempting me with free samples. The locals were super friendly, always happy to chat even with my broken Bahasa. Traffic is a mess, but the angkot minibuses are an adventure—just hop on, squeeze in, and enjoy the ride for pennies. And the outlet stores? Dangerous for my wallet. Left with way more batik shirts than I planned.
1The cool mountain air makes Bandung such a nice break from Java’s usual heat. Walking around the Art Deco buildings in the city center feels like stepping back in time, especially with all the little indie cafes tucked between them. The local street food is amazing—I still dream about that martabak manis from a random stall near the train station. Traffic gets wild, but the angkot minibuses are cheap and surprisingly efficient once you figure out the routes. The creative vibe here is infectious, from the weekend flea markets to the live music in Braga at night. Perfect mix of laid-back and lively.
1The cool mountain air in Bandung is such a relief after Jakarta’s heat—perfect for sipping local coffee in one of the many open-air cafés tucked between Art Deco buildings. The food scene here is incredible, especially the Sundanese places where you get crispy fried tempeh and sambal that actually has a kick. Love how walkable the central area is, with colonial-era architecture and little boutiques selling handmade fabrics. Even the angkot minibuses, chaotic as they are, add to the city’s lively charm.
