Bogor, located in Indonesia’s West Java region, is a bustling city with a population of approximately 1.1 million. Known for its lush greenery and cooler climate, it serves as a popular retreat from the heat of nearby Jakarta. The city is often referred to as the "Rain City" due to its frequent rainfall.

The cool mountain air in Bogor is such a relief after Jakarta's heat. I spent hours just wandering the botanical gardens—those ancient trees and massive lily pads made me feel like I'd stepped into another world. The locals were super friendly, especially when I tried ordering street food with my terrible Bahasa; the satay vendor even gave me an extra skewer for effort. Bogor's colonial-era buildings mixed with chaotic markets give it this odd but charming vibe, like the city can't decide if it's sleepy or bustling. And that sudden afternoon downpour caught me off guard, but ducking into a tiny warung for hot teh tarik while the rain poured outside was pure magic. I thought the angkot minibuses would be intimidating, but hopping on one to get up to the presidential palace was weirdly fun—once you figure out the hand signals and shouting system. Way better than sitting in traffic, and cost almost nothing.

1Bogor was such a refreshing escape from Jakarta’s chaos—the cooler climate and lush greenery instantly put me at ease. I spent hours wandering the Bogor Botanical Gardens, which felt like stepping into a tropical paradise with its towering palms and serene ponds. The locals were incredibly warm and welcoming, always happy to chat and share recommendations for hidden warungs where I tried some of the best soto Bogor I’ve ever had. The city’s mix of colonial architecture and bustling markets gave it a charming, laid-back vibe that I couldn’t get enough of. Plus, the train ride from Jakarta was quick and affordable, making it an easy day trip or weekend getaway. Bogor feels like a little slice of tranquility tucked into Java’s busy landscape.
1Bogor is such a refreshing escape from Jakarta’s chaos—the cool mountain air alone makes it worth the trip. I spent hours wandering the Bogor Botanical Gardens, which felt like stepping into a lush, green paradise with centuries-old trees and serene ponds. The locals were incredibly warm, and I had the best soto ayam at a small warung near the palace; simple, flavorful, and ridiculously cheap. The colonial-era architecture around the city center adds a charming historical vibe. It’s the perfect blend of nature, culture, and relaxation.
