Depok has this laid-back energy I didn’t expect from a city so close to Jakarta. The parks and green spaces around UI’s campus make it feel less chaotic than other parts of Greater Jakarta, and the street food near Margo City is some of the best I’ve had—especially the nasi uduk with crispy fried chicken. The Transjakarta buses make getting around surprisingly easy, even if traffic can still get rough. It’s not flashy, but there’s something comforting about how unpretentious and lived-in the city feels.
