Walking through Xi'an's ancient city walls at sunrise was magical—the way the morning light hit the terracotta-colored bricks made the history feel alive. The Muslim Quarter’s street food scene is unreal; I still dream about the cumin-dusted lamb skewers and flaky roujiamo buns. Despite the crowds, the mix of old-world charm and buzzing modern energy makes this city unforgettable.

1Wandering through Xi’an’s Muslim Quarter at night is pure sensory overload—the sizzle of lamb skewers on open grills, the sticky-sweet scent of persimmon cakes, and alleyways lit by red lanterns. The city walls at sunset are unreal—renting a bike to ride the perimeter gives you this bizarre mix of ancient and modern as you glide past guard towers with the skyline stretching out behind them. The locals have this no-nonsense warmth—I got lost near the Bell Tower and a shopkeeper walked me halfway to my hostel just to make sure I didn’t miss the turn.
