The street food’s hearty, but after three days of cumin-heavy lamb skewers, I was craving something, anything, that wasn’t charred on a stick. The subway’s efficient, though good luck finding English signs once you’re outside the touristy spots. The Imperial Palace is impressive, but half the halls were under scaffolding—typical China, always renovating when you show up.
