Saint Petersburg, Russia's second-largest city, is a cultural hub with over 5 million residents. Located in the Northwestern Federal District, it's known for its grand imperial architecture and rich history. The city's canals and elegant bridges have earned it the nickname "Venice of the North."

The canals and pastel-colored palaces make Saint Petersburg feel like a dream. I lost hours just wandering past the Winter Palace, watching sunlight bounce off the gold domes of the Church on Spilled Blood. Even the metro stations are works of art—marble columns and chandeliers deep underground. Cafe culture here is perfect for people-watching—strong coffee, honey cake, and locals debating literature like it’s a sport. Summer nights when the bridges lift over the Neva, and the sky never fully darkens, are pure magic. The Hermitage could take a lifetime to explore properly, but I loved getting lost in just one wing, surrounded by Rembrandts and gilded ceilings. This city has a way of making history feel alive. Surprisingly walkable for its size, and those onion domes against the gray sky? Unforgettable. A little austere at first glance, but once you find the tucked-away jazz bars and bakeries, it gets under your skin.
