  Samara's waterfront promenade could be nice if it wasn't so neglected—broken pavement, overflowing trash bins, and a lingering smell of diesel from the nearby port. The Soviet-era apartment blocks dominate the skyline, giving the whole city a depressing, grey uniformity. Public transport is unreliable, with buses that seem to run on their own unpredictable schedule. Even the local borscht at a few places tasted watered down, like they were stretching ingredients. Not a place I'd rush back to. The Volga River should be the highlight, but the beaches are littered and the water looks uninviting. Locals keep to themselves—not unfriendly, just indifferent, like they’ve given up on the place too. Nightlife is either overpriced clubs or dingy bars with sticky floors. Even the famous Samara Space Museum felt outdated and poorly maintained. Just a forgettable, worn-down city.
