  • Lianyungang surprised me with its perfect mix of coastal charm and urban energy. Strolling along Lian Island’s beaches at sunset, with the sea breeze and the distant hum of port activity, felt oddly peaceful for a city this size. The seafood here is next-level fresh—grabbed some grilled squid from a street vendor near the night market, and it was smoky, tender, and ridiculously cheap. Even the bus system was efficient, which isn’t something I often say about smaller Chinese cities. Ended up chatting with a few locals at a tea house near Huaguo Mountain, and their pride in the city’s growing skyline was contagious. Left wishing I’d booked a longer stay.
