  • The mix of Uyghur and Han culture in Ürümqi is fascinating—walking through the bazaar, you get wafts of cumin and roasting lamb skewers while merchants call out in Mandarin and Uyghur. The city feels alive, especially at night when the food stalls light up along the sidewalks. Public buses are cheap and surprisingly efficient for getting around, though the occasional donkey cart still weaves through traffic, which just adds to the charm. Didn’t expect to find such a vibrant energy this far west in China.
