Fukuoka’s yatai stalls are the perfect way to end a day—tiny open-air food carts serving steaming bowls of Hakata ramen or yakitori under the glow of lanterns. I love how compact the city feels, with the subway and buses making it easy to hop between the modern shopping districts and historic temples like Kushida-jinja. The people here are friendly without being overbearing, and even as a solo traveler, I never felt out of place grabbing a late-night bite or wandering along the Naka River.
