Yinchuan surprised me with its mix of modern high-rises and traditional Hui Muslim architecture—the contrast was striking, though the city felt a bit disjointed at times. The lamb skewers from the night markets were delicious, but I struggled to find much variety beyond that in the local food scene. Public transport was reliable enough to get around, though the lack of English signage made it tricky for non-Mandarin speakers. The few cultural sites like the Western Xia Tombs were interesting but felt oddly disconnected from the rest of the city's vibe. Not bad, just hard to pin down.
