  Xinyang has its moments, especially around the tea markets where the scent of fresh leaves fills the air, but the city feels a bit stuck in between—not quite bustling metropolis, not quite charming small town. The streets get chaotic around rush hour with bikes and scooters weaving unpredictably, though the bus system is reliable if you don’t mind squeezing in. Some older neighborhoods have a worn-out charm, but the newer areas feel like any other mid-tier Chinese city with blocky apartments and generic shopping plazas. Decent food if you know where to look, just don’t expect anything groundbreaking.
