Qinzhou is a bustling port city in southern China's Guangxi region, home to over 1.2 million residents. Located on the scenic Gulf of Tonkin, it serves as an important trade hub with a growing urban center. The city blends coastal charm with rapid economic development, offering visitors a glimpse of modernizing China beyond its major metropolises.

My time in Qinzhou felt like a struggle from start to finish. The city’s layout was confusing, with poor signage and barely any English translations, making it nearly impossible to navigate as a visitor. Public transportation was unreliable and overcrowded, with buses arriving sporadically and taxis often refusing to use their meters. The streets were littered, and the air quality was noticeably poor, leaving me with a persistent cough. The few local restaurants I tried served bland, oily food that didn’t live up to the region’s culinary reputation. Overall, Qinzhou lacked the charm and infrastructure I’d hoped for, and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re passing through for business.

1Qinzhou surprised me with its laid-back coastal charm—strolling along the waterfront at sunset with locals snacking on freshly grilled seafood was the perfect way to unwind. The mix of modern high-rises and old portside warehouses gives the city an unpolished but authentic vibe. I especially loved the affordability here; a huge bowl of spicy snail noodles cost next to nothing at a streetside stall. The people were friendly in that no-nonsense Guangxi way, happy to chat but never in your face. And the nearby Sanniang Bay beaches? Underrated gems without the tourist crowds. (Note: If you'd like a different focus—markets, temples, transportation, etc.—just let me know!)
