  The wide open spaces and tree-lined boulevards in Daqing make it feel surprisingly peaceful for a city its size. I loved how efficiently the bus system connected the oil industry hubs with the downtown area - never waited more than 10 minutes. The local lamb hotpot spots near the Oilfield History Museum serve up massive portions at prices that’ll make any budget traveler smile. Walking through the Daqing Forest Park at sunset with all the locals out flying kites gave me such a warm sense of community.
