Jiangmen surprised me—it’s got this laid-back charm you don’t expect from a mid-sized Chinese city. The old qilou arcades in Changdi Pedestrian Street are gorgeous, with their mix of colonial and traditional styles, and the local claypot rice stalls tucked under them are unbeatable. The pace here feels slower, and people actually stop to chat instead of rushing past. Took a short ferry ride to Gulangyu’s less famous cousin, Liangdao, and had the whole island beach practically to myself. Even the buses were weirdly punctual.
