Caloocan, located in the National Capital Region (NCR) of the Philippines, is a bustling city with a population of approximately 1.7 million. Known for its vibrant urban life, it serves as a key residential and commercial hub in Metro Manila. Its central location makes it a convenient gateway to the capital’s many attractions and opportunities.

Walking around Caloocan feels like stepping into a slice of real Manila life—busy, chaotic, but full of character. The streets buzz with jeepneys and tricycles, and you’ll find some of the best cheap street food, like crispy pork sisig, at roadside stalls. The Bonifacio Monument is a striking piece of history, and the locals are quick to smile, even in the midday heat. It’s not polished, but that’s what makes it interesting.

1Traffic in Caloocan is next-level brutal—spent over an hour just crawling through Monumento on a weekday afternoon. Sidewalks are either nonexistent or cluttered with vendors, so walking feels like an obstacle course. The air’s thick with jeepney fumes, and good luck finding a decent spot to eat that isn’t a fast-food chain or a cramped carinderia. Not exactly a place you’d linger unless you had to. The streets feel chaotic even by Manila standards—unmarked lanes, sudden floods when it rains, and zero pedestrian priority. Saw more stray dogs than proper parks. Even the local markets were overwhelming, with vendors shouting and cramped aisles. Wouldn’t recommend unless you’re passing through or have family here. Caloocan’s got that worn-down, overcrowded vibe where everything feels like it’s barely holding together. Tried taking a jeepney and got lost because routes aren’t posted clearly—drivers just yell destinations, and if you’re not local, good luck. Even the historic spots like Bonifacio Monument are just surrounded by traffic and noise. Not my idea of a fun visit.
