  • I found Xinxiang surprisingly green for an industrial city—the parks along the Wei River are perfect for early morning walks when the air is crisp. The local hand-pulled noodles at a tiny shop near the train station were some of the best I’ve had, chewy and fragrant with chili oil. People here move at a slower pace than in bigger cities, happy to chat if you try a few words of Mandarin. The mix of old and new in Xinxiang’s architecture caught my eye—sleek high-rises next to traditional courtyards with fading red lanterns. Public buses were cheap and reliable, though I’d recommend downloading a translation app for route signs. At night, the food stalls near Hongqi District light up with skewers and steaming pots, full of locals laughing over beers. What stuck with me was how welcoming Xinxiang felt. A shopkeeper noticed me hesitating over strange snacks and just handed me a free sample with a grin. For a smaller Chinese city, it’s got charm—real daily life, not polished for tourists. I left craving more of those fiery beef pancakes.
