The colorful colonial buildings in Puebla’s historic center are straight out of a postcard—especially the talavera-tiled facades that glow in the afternoon sun. I spent hours just wandering the streets, stopping for the best mole poblano I’ve ever had at a family-run spot near the zócalo. The city feels lively but relaxed, with locals chatting under the arches of the cathedral plaza late into the evening. The mix of Baroque churches and bustling markets gives Puebla this amazing energy—old-world grandeur but totally lived-in. I loved grabbing a cemita from a street vendor and people-watching near the artisan shops. Even the Uber rides were cheap, which made hopping between neighborhoods a breeze. Puebla’s food scene alone is worth the trip, but what stuck with me was how warm and proud the locals are about their city. Everywhere I went, someone was eager to recommend a hidden gem or explain the history behind a mural. It’s one of those places that feels undiscovered but completely welcoming.
