Nairobi surprised me with its energy—skyscrapers next to sprawling parks, matatus blasting music while zebras graze near the highway. The Karura Forest was my favorite escape, lush and peaceful right in the city. Street food stalls serve up the best grilled maize with chili, and the coffee? Unbeatable. Even the traffic jams had character, with vendors weaving between cars selling everything from phone chargers to fresh mangoes.
