Kakamega’s roads are a nightmare—potholed and chaotic, with matatus swerving unpredictably. The town feels stuck in time, with worn-out colonial buildings and little upkeep. Even the famous Kakamega Forest felt underwhelming, overrun with litter in some spots. Food options were limited and overpriced for what you get; no real standout flavors beyond greasy street meat. Not much going on after dark except dimly lit bars playing the same old tunes. Wouldn’t rush back.
