  • Lu’an has this odd mix of old and new, where you’ll see a crumbling brick building right next to a shiny new high-rise. The streets are bustling but not exactly charming—more practical than picturesque. The local noodles are cheap and filling, though nothing to write home about. I did appreciate how easy it was to get around by bus, even if the stations could use a good scrub. Not a bad stopover, but not a destination either. The riverside promenade is peaceful in the evenings, but during the day, the city feels like it’s stuck between growth and neglect. Some locals were warm, others indifferent—just like any mid-sized Chinese city, really. Worth a quick visit if you're passing through, but don’t rearrange your plans for it.
