  The Li River cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo is unreal—those jagged karst mountains rising straight out of the water look like a painting come to life. Wandering the pedestrian streets at night, the smell of sizzling river snails and chili oil fills the air while locals play mahjong under red lanterns. Even the bus system is surprisingly efficient for a smaller Chinese city, and drivers actually stop for pedestrians! The whole place has this laid-back, almost tropical vibe you don’t expect this far north.
