Windhoek surprised me with its laid-back charm—wide, tree-lined boulevards and German colonial architecture make it feel more like a small European town than an African capital. The craft market by the Old Breweries Complex had some of the most unique handmade jewelry I’ve seen, and the beef at that little braai spot near the taxi rank was melt-in-your-mouth tender. Even the heat felt manageable with those cool highland breezes rolling in by late afternoon.
