Walking through Quito's historic center feels like stepping into a colonial painting—narrow cobbled streets, grand churches with gold-leaf interiors, and pastel-colored buildings stacked on steep hills. The altitude takes some getting used to, but the sweeping views from the Basilica’s towers are worth the lightheadedness. Even the local buses, though chaotic, have a surprising charm when you squeeze in next to vendors selling fresh mango slices.
