Porto Alegre's historic center has this faded grandeur that I find weirdly charming—colonial buildings mixed with mid-century modern, all a little worn but full of character. The public market is where I ate the best pastel de carne of my life, crispy and greasy in the best way. People here take their chimarrão seriously, and I loved hanging by the Guaíba at sunset watching locals pass around their gourds like it's the most natural thing in the world. The bus system isn't perfect, but it got me everywhere without much hassle.

The historic center has this great mix of crumbling colonial facades and vibrant street art, like the city respects its past but isn’t stuck in it. And the churrascarias here? Unreal. I’ve never had meat so tender that just falls apart with a glance. Even the bus system is surprisingly efficient for a city this size—got me everywhere without a hitch.
