Madrid, Spain's vibrant capital, is home to over 3.2 million residents. As the country's most populous city, it buzzes with cultural energy and historic charm.

The energy in Madrid is infectious—late-night tapas bars buzzing with locals at 1 AM, plazas filled with street performers, and that golden-hour glow bouncing off the sandstone facades. I lost count of how many times I wandered into a random bar only to find the best tortilla de patatas I’ve ever had. The metro is ridiculously efficient, too—zipped from Retiro Park to a flamenco show in Malasaña in 15 minutes flat.

1Madrid’s energy is undeniable, but it can be exhausting—streets packed until 3 AM even on a Tuesday, and good luck finding a quiet café that isn’t overrun with tourists or locals shouting over each other. The architecture is stunning, but half the grand buildings are banks or government offices you can’t even enter. Tapas bars are everywhere, but after a while, all those jamón plates start to feel repetitive unless you’re willing to splurge on the high-end spots. The metro is efficient, but good luck navigating the crowds during rush hour. It’s a city that demands stamina.
