Waking up to snow-covered mountains right outside my window never got old in Longyearbyen. The Arctic light in winter turns everything blue and surreal—like walking through a frozen dream. Grabbing a hot chocolate at the local café while bundled up in layers was the perfect way to warm up after spotting reindeer wandering near town. The small community feels remote but tight-knit, and everyone had stories about polar bear encounters (though thankfully, I didn’t see one up close!). It’s pricey, but where else can you visit a global seed vault or take a dogsled ride under the northern lights? Unforgettable.
