Kolkata, India's cultural capital, pulses with vibrant energy along the Hooghly River. This former British colonial hub dazzles with colonial architecture, bustling markets, and legendary sweets. Home to over 4.6 million people, it remains West Bengal's beating heart.

Walking through Kolkata feels like stepping into a living novel—every corner has a story. The colonial-era buildings along the Strand Road are crumbling just enough to give them character, and the smell of phuchka from street vendors mixes with the honking chaos of yellow taxis. No one is in a hurry to help you, but once they do, it's with a warmth that feels genuine. The bookshops in College Street are treasure troves, and even if you don’t buy anything, just browsing feels like a privilege. The city doesn’t try to impress you, and that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable. The Howrah Bridge at sunset is pure magic—steel and sweat and a thousand lives crossing over the Hooghly. The mishti here is so sweet it should be illegal, but I kept going back for more rosogollas. Even the trams, slow and rattling, have a charm—nowhere else do you get to people-watch at this pace. Kolkata is messy, loud, and utterly alive in a way that gets under your skin.
