Jinan’s constant construction makes it feel like a city perpetually under repair—everywhere you go, there’s scaffolding, blocked sidewalks, and dust in the air. The famous springs are underwhelming after navigating the crowds and steep ticket prices. Public transport is packed to the point of discomfort, and good luck finding a taxi when you need one. Even the local food, usually a highlight in China, feels greasy and repetitive here. The city lacks energy—even at night, it feels sleepy, with little to do beyond chain restaurants and half-empty malls.
