Harare is Zimbabwe's bustling capital and largest city, home to over 1.5 million residents. This vibrant urban hub blends modern high-rises with green spaces like the National Botanic Garden.

Harare surprised me with its lush green spaces right in the city center—the parks are full of jacaranda trees that turn the streets purple when they bloom. The local market near Robert Mugabe Road had the freshest mangoes I’ve ever tasted, sold by vendors who actually took time to chat. Public transport is chaotic but cheap, and I loved how minibus drivers blast Zimbabwean house music while weaving through traffic. Even with the economic struggles, people here have this warmth that makes you feel welcome.

1Harare surprised me with its lush greenery and open spaces—few cities have so many jacaranda-lined streets and parks right in the center. The local coffee shops in Avondale serve some of the freshest roasts I’ve had, and the market at Mbare Musika is a burst of color and energy. The people here have this easygoing warmth that makes striking up conversations effortless. Even the combi minibuses, chaotic as they are, have a rhythm to them once you get the hang of it.
