Walking through Belmopan feels like discovering a quiet secret – this tiny capital is all shady boulevards and low-key government buildings, nothing like the chaos of bigger cities. The open-air market near the bus terminal has the best fresh corn tortillas I've tasted in Belize, still warm and wrapped in banana leaves by smiling vendors. What it lacks in nightlife it makes up for as a peaceful basecamp – caught a chicken bus straight to the Mountain Pine Ridge forests at sunrise with zero hassle.
