  • Walking through Arequipa’s historic center feels like stepping into a postcard—white volcanic stone buildings glow under the sun, and the Santa Catalina Monastery’s vibrant walls are a photographer’s dream. The local rocoto relleno packs just the right amount of heat, and the markets are full of fresh fruit juices that cost barely anything. Even the bus rides have views of El Misti looming in the distance. The Plaza de Armas is the perfect spot to people-watch—locals chat on benches, street vendors sell candied pecans, and the cathedral towers over everything. I lost count of how many times I stopped to admire the sillar architecture. It’s one of those cities where even getting lost feels rewarding. At night, the San Camilo Market turns into a casual foodie paradise with sizzling anticuchos and warm empanadas. The air gets crisp, but the pisco sours help with that. Arequipa has this quiet charm that makes you want to stay longer than planned.
