Amman, Jordan’s capital, is a bustling city of over 1.2 million people, blending ancient history with modern urban life. Located in the heart of the Middle East, it serves as a cultural and economic hub, offering visitors a mix of traditional markets, vibrant neighborhoods, and scenic hills. Its strategic location makes it a gateway to exploring Jordan’s rich heritage and natural wonders.

Walking around Amman feels like being trapped in an endless sprawl of beige concrete. The traffic is insane—honking, fumes, and aggressive drivers make crossing the street an adrenaline sport. Even the historic parts feel overshadowed by haphazard construction and litter. Jordanians are warm, sure, but the city itself has no rhythm, just hills, dust, and stalled taxi meters.

1Amman’s mix of old and new keeps surprising me—sipping strong Arabic coffee on a rooftop with the ancient Citadel glowing in the distance, then diving into bustling downtown alleys where spice stalls and falafel stands spill onto the street. The hills make every walk a mini workout, but the views over the white cityscape, especially at sunset, are worth it. People here greet you like an old friend even if you just met. The food alone is reason to visit—simple dishes like mansaf and smoky grilled meats hit differently here, and the bakeries selling fresh ka’ak in the morning make the best on-the-go breakfast. Public transport isn’t the most efficient, but taxis are cheap and locals will happily point you the right way if you get turned around in the maze-like streets. Amman doesn’t try to be polished—it’s chaotic, layered, and full of life in a way that feels real. You don’t just see the city, you feel it. The call to prayer echoing between buildings, the chatter in crowded cafés late into the night, even the honking traffic becomes part of the rhythm. It stays with you.
